History

The property borders with the estates of the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore, the main spiritual centre of the Olivetan monks. Since XIV century, monks deeply influenced the agriculture organization of the region, developed in autonomous estates with cultured fields fenced by row of vines. Olive oil production in the land owned today by Agricola Neci is proven since the Middle Age as evidenced in a sharecropping agreement which dates back to 1383 and rules out the relationship between the Abbey, owner of the land at the time, and a farmer, named Nardo Agnolone. The agreement clearly mentions the presence of olive groves in the area, which in those days was called Nece.
